The Buckingham Fountain Up Close

Defined Tag:
If you happen to pass by the Chicago area, do not miss the chance to appreciate the beauty of the famous Buckingham Fountain. This is one of the city's major landmarks, located in Grant Park.

The Buckingham Fountain is hard to miss, because it is simply one of the largest in the world. It contains about 5,700 liters of water and is equipped with jets to push the water to a fast speed of 880 liters per second.

Spectators will be able to appreciate the fountain yearly from April 1 to November 1. That's the usual schedule for the fountain to be set into motion. People then can drive by and experience its performance, together with all its lights and glamour.

The fountain is open every 20 minutes between 8 o'clock in the morning up to 11 o'clock in the evening. As always, it is good to watch the fountain in all its glory during the night, when the illumination is at maximum.

As a brief background, it was Jacques Lambert who made the Buckingham fountain. It was modeled after a fountain in Versailles, called the Latona Fountain. Kate Buckingham, a philanthropist, named the fountain in memory of his brother, Clarence Buckingham. She then donated it to the city of Chicago in 1927.

The Buckingham fountain is composed of three pumps, 134 jets, and 820 lights. A computer called Honeywell Excel-Plus controls it. The fountain is also outfitted with an ample alarm system.

If you love fountains, you should not miss out visiting the Buckingham fountain. Its majestic performance is so enthralling you can't wait for its next show. It is so well maintained and beautiful its charm sparkles all the way to the rest of the world.

The Buckingham fountain is plainly one of the finest fountains in all of America. Its landscape, its layout, and its design are something that you cannot take for granted. It is clearly a one big showcase of craft and architecture combined.
